Last month I wrote about cakes that looked like a basket. I just ran across this basket, by Mohawk weaver Mary Adams, that looks like a cake. I think if I were going to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding cake I would much rather have one like this! What do you say?

  1. I would have enjoyed this much more on our 1st anniversary than the soggy cake top my MIL pulled out of her freezer! I have never seen this before - thanks for sharing.

  2. It is spectacular. I had the good fortune to see some of Mary Adams work on display many years ago. Each of the tiny details are absolutely perfect.

  3. The last couple of weddings I have gone to this summer it seems as though the cake tradition is sort of an afterthought. I am sure both couples spent a small fortune on their cakes, but they just aren't the center piece to the wedding reception like they used to be when it was more of a punch and cake affair instead of the big dinner and deejay event now a days.

  4. Wow, that is fabulous! And you're right about cakes not being the centerpieces they used to be...they are WAY too expensive and usually not very good to boot! My daughter just got married and opted for a SMALL decorated cake, the rest was sheet cake! At least it was delicious....But if you want a showstopper, this basket cake would be the way to go!

  5. We have an elder basket maker on our reservation that makes cake baskets. They are something else, and you won't have to worry about the calorie intake.
